Kestrel Labs
A pixel-faithful build of a design studio’s bold concept for a hardware start-up, delivered under the studio’s name.
The challenge
A design studio had won the Kestrel account with an ambitious concept: oversized type, scroll-triggered motion and a product configurator. They had the designs. They didn’t have a developer who could build them without watering them down.
The launch date was fixed to a trade show, and the studio needed to stay the face of the project throughout.
The approach
I worked directly from the studio’s design files, matching type, spacing and motion to the pixel and flagging anything that would behave differently on small screens before building it.
Weekly preview links went to the studio, never the end client. When the configurator needed rethinking for touch screens, I proposed two options with prototypes and the studio chose.
What I built
- 01
Pixel-perfect build
Layouts matched to the design file at every breakpoint.
- 02
Scroll motion
Lightweight animations that respect reduced-motion settings.
- 03
Product configurator
Touch-friendly configurator with live pricing.
- 04
White label
All communication through the studio. Their client, their credit.
The results
“We handed over a complex file and got back exactly what we designed, plus smarter mobile behaviour than we’d thought of.”
